Crazy Cornstarch.

hmmmm. This project was not intended to go exactly this way, but the end results were beautiful, and the birds were happy and content for over an hour (that's a really long time for toddlers and preschoolers to maintain focus on one activity!) We started with a plan to mix cornstarch and water, and spoon into ziplocs to make squishy bags...We started out calm, measuring 1/4 cup cornstarch and 1/4 cup water into little bowls. Cornstarch, when dry, is so soft and silky and a joy for children to play with. When you add water it becomes this amazing substance that isn't really liquid or solid, its hard to explain, but so fun to play with....Anyway, we never really got wild...but we did maybe get a little carried away...sometimes you just have to go wherever the activity and children lead, having faith that some rags and soap will eventually take care of the mess...and besides, we do have that paragraph in our policies devoted to children wearing play clothes, 'cause they will get messy.....
